LEAP is designed to help eligible households pay part of their utility costs for their main heating source. Eligibility requirements include: paying home heating costs to an energy provider, fuel dealer or as part of rent; applicant or a member of the household being a permanent legal resident of the United States and Colorado; and maximum family household gross income falling within specific guidelines.
Low-Income Weatherization: In partnership with local agencies and the U.S. Department of Energy, the Colorado Energy Office (CEO) offers a free Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) to Colorado’s low-income residents. WAP works to maximize energy cost savings for each client by providing them with cost-effective energy efficiency services.
If you’re in La Plata or Archuleta Counties, LPEA, your local electric co-op offers rebates for energy efficient upgrades for homes and businesses. If you live in the Atmos service area in southwest Colorado, you may be eligible for rebates and there are plenty! With a new furnace up to $400, insulation up to $400, a new programmable thermostat at $25…the list is big for saving on your gas bill. You can find out the extensive list here.
Empire Electric serves Cortez, Dolores, Dove Creek, Mancos, Monticello, and Towaoc and offers rebates for those ready to save on electric utility bills. They have rebates for replacing old incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs and purchases for ENERGY Star appliances. When you’re ready to upgrade your refrigerator, they offer recycling for members who qualify for a substantial refrigerator/freezer recycling credit to properly dispose of their old units. Don’t move that old refrigerator to the garage, recycle it and save!
